- Leave the bandage on for 2–6 hours (or as directed). This protects your tattoo from bacteria and irritation.
- Wash your hands before touching your tattoo.
- Gently wash the tattoo with lukewarm water and mild, fragrance-free soap. Do not scrub.
- Pat dry with a clean paper towel or allow it to air dry. Avoid using cloth towels.
- Apply a thin layer of unscented healing ointment (like Aquaphor or a tattoo-specific balm) 2–3 times daily for the first few days.
- After the initial healing phase (about 3–5 days), switch to a fragrance-free lotion to keep the skin moisturized.
- Do not re-bandage the tattoo unless advised by your artist.
- Avoid picking, scratching, or peeling any scabs or flakes—this can cause scarring or loss of ink.
- Avoid soaking the tattoo in water (no swimming, baths, or hot tubs) for at least 2 weeks.
- Keep it out of direct sunlight—UV rays can damage a healing tattoo and cause fading.
- Wear loose, clean clothing over the tattoo to prevent irritation and infection.
- Avoid heavy sweating or intense workouts for the first few days.
- Healing time varies but generally takes 2–4 weeks. Follow up with your artist if you have concerns.
